The incident happened around 7:38 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Mahopac.

Due to the injuries and the mechanism of injury, the Putnam County sheriff's deputy was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department’s Ambulance where it was determined that the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. said.

As a result of that investigation, the driver of the SUV was issued three summons for vehicle traffic law, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday, Dec. 16. Those charges are:

  • Disobeying a lawful order of a police officer;
  • Failure to exercise due care when approaching an emergency vehicle;
  • speeding.

The name of the motorist has not been released.

"I would like to thank the Town of Carmel Police Department the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department and the staff at Danbury Hospital along with the members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department for their professionalism in the handling of this incident," Langley said.
